PURE RAW FORUM
The RAW of social interactions are rarely used by DMs, which fundamentally cripples all character builds that rely on charming skills such as persuasion, deception or intimidation, particularly Bards, extra particularly College of Eloquence Bards.
To give Bards the due they are entitled to under the RAW most DMs need to read, understand and apply the RAW of social interactions on p.244-5 of the DMG. These rules are summarized below.
Social Interaction Summary:
1. Starting Attitude:
Friendly/Indifferent/Hostile (DM discretion)
2. Shifting Attitude(Optional):
Insight check to determine ideal, bond or flaw after interacting/observing personality traits and characteristics. Exploiting ideal, bond or flaw during interaction may temporarily shift attitude one step.
3. The Roll:
Determine where the player’s request falls on following table:
#1. Oppose with risks.
#2. No Help but No Harm.
#3. Help with no risk.
#4. Help with minor risk.
#5. Help with significant risk or sacrifice.
Hostile starts with DC 0 at step #1
Indifferent starts with DC 0 at step #2
Friendly starts with DC 0 at step #3.
Each higher step adds +10 to the DC or lower step subtracts -10. Roll Persuasion, Deception or Intimidation vs. the final modified DC.
4. Repeat? Discretion of DM based on role play.
